Barack Obama   -   2008/06/20Viewed 3389 times this month, last update: 2008/10/21

From [2008 Elections//day 1], Barack Obama has been the person I've wanted to take the presidency in 2009. Barack Obama has more integrity, vision and maturity than any other person I have ever seen on the political stage. This is the person who will clean up the Bush mess, reign in corporate greed, protect our environment, economy and people, and restore the United States of America to the shining beacon of freedom, democracy, peace and innovation that it was, and must be.

This speech (transcript) Obama made on June 18th on the subject of foreign policy could not be a more clear indictment of the failed policies of the Bush administration, or a stronger, more principled stance on security, morality and justice. It is just this kind of insight that we so desperately need directing the nation.

Barack Obama will be the president of the United States in 2009, but the tiny chance that [John McCain] might eek out (or more likely try to steal) a victory is far to great a risk to wish away. Volunteer, Donate and spread the word!

Update: 2008/07/24:
Barack Obama delivered an inspiring, amazing speech today, to a crowd of more than TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND people at the Victory Tower in the center of Berlin:

Barack Obama isn't perfect (see FISA), but he is the finest person to run to be president of the United States in my lifetime. He will be president, and with our help (and guidance!!!) he will be one of the very best this country has ever had. He will undo much of what has been broken, and put us back on the path set by the founders of the United States of America.

Comments:
Bill N (2008-07-09): Surprisingly, I agree with you! I was a McCain supporter in 2000, but I think Obama is the better choice for restoring the sanctity of the Presidency, leading a recovery from the shambles of the current administration, and putting our futures on the right track. Here's to not voting party affiliation! GoBama!

Erik (2008-07-09): Bill, what's so surprising?! You obviously have good taste and great minds think alike!

Bill N (2008-07-10): It's surprising because I am a registered Republican and I typically disagree with your viewpoints. Admittedly, it's usually because, as a Repub, I am "supposed" to. Hopefully others like me have opened their eyes to change as well.

fred w (2008-09-07): barack is full of hot air,as is any other politician, to benefit his own cause. he is lying thru his teeth and millions eat up his bull----. he was a nothing in the senate and will be a nothing president, should he be lucky enough to win. vote on gullible barack lovers.

Erik (2008-09-08): Fred, I am one of the greatest cynics when it comes to politics and politicians, however I really believe Obama has the welfare of the whole of the US public at heart when he speaks, and when he legislates. What supporting evidence of his "hot air", "lies" or "bull ----" do you have?

Bill N (2008-09-09): Fred, you say "as is any other politician" yet bash people for picking one. I'm with Erik, of the candidates I think Obama is the best choice for the reasons I stated above.

bob (2008-09-16): sure if you call the welfare of the whole US increasing the tax on those who are willing to work hard and earn more. Where does the constitution say it is a right to live off my work simply because you don't want to work as hard. Free college why I went to school at night and worked the day. it is called income redistribution so what happens is the ones earning simply defer income and we receive less tax income sounds like good economics to me. why not say make all you want and I tax you less than now. Guess what I will defer less of my income till later.

Erik (2008-10-06): Bob,
Higher taxation is a standard talking point of the ill-informed republican right against Obama. In fact, Barack Obama will lower taxes on 98% of the US population. See his tax plan here:

http://www.barackobama.com/taxes/

If you make more than $250,000, under Obama's plan your taxes will be raised. I think this is very fair, since (in my very humble opinion) the wealthy people in this country pay a far lesser proportion of their income as taxes than those less fortunate. Therefore, increasing taxes on the wealthy is not less fair, it is more fair.

Bill N (2008-10-06): The income re-distribution argument is something that I bought into for a while as well. That is, until I checked the actual budget. Unemployment and Welfare account for a whopping 1.8% of the budget.

Sure, there will always be abusers of the system, but I'd venture to guess that those are exceptions rather than rule. And what is the alternative? Eliminating it would add relatively little back to the budget.

If this is your sole reason for voting Republican, you should rethink your position. The "spend and spend" model is affecting all of us far greater than the welfare "problem."

VanityD (2010-01-29): After this last year, one wonders If President Obama is ever going to get back to some of his campaign promises. One was jobs – don't see too many – and another was winding down wars and shoring up the budget. Neither has been accomplished. He has come up with a spending freeze, but it seems as token offerings – it's like giving a couple payday loans to a bank when a $500,000 mortgage is due. $250 billion over three years doesn't add up to much off the federal budget, but he says it will make sense once he gives the State of the Union address.
