Today, March 19th 2003, the man we did not elect; against the will of the citizens of this, and nearly every country in the world, will exercise the might of the most powerful military in the world to murder thousands of innocent people, simply to satisfy his ego.
Saddam Hussein is a bad, bad man. He has murdered thousands of of his own innocent people, he should be removed from power, no question. But is this why we are now at war? No. A war to remove Saddam Hussein from power would start at the UN, the only place in the world where morality can be made into law. We are at war to enforce a treaty of disarmament signed ten years ago. The question is: Why enforce it now, and why with war? Has every other option been exausted? What to the world leaders think the answers to those questions are?
I don't think anyone belives Iraq is a threat to anyone but their closest neighbors, and their own people. Even if they were, we would not be at war with them. Simply being a threat is not reason enough for war. If it was, we would be at war with Cuba, North Korea, China, etc., etc.
1. George W. Bush didn't win the presidential election.
2. George W. Bush illegally manipulated the election in order to be elected.
3. George W. Bush is following through with his campaign promise to 'not hesitate to use force'
4. George W. Bush has no real logical reason for war, other than that he wants to play at it.
Jon (2003-03-21): The real reasons behind Bush's push for war in Iraq can be found here. In short - The hawks have felt for years that if Saddam were taken out, and a democratic government placed in power, that all the problems in the region would be solved. This was the plan long before 9/11, which is why linkage between Iraq and 9/11 is so silly.
I doubt it will surprise anyone to find that one of the people who helped formulate this strategy was Dan Quail.
Larry E (2003-09-03): I believe you can't spell believe. I can't believe you put a typo on such a
judgmental web page...glass houses and all that...
Larry E (2003-09-03): P.S. It is Dan Quayle, not quail. Quail is the bird.
Erik (2003-09-03): I believe my spelling has nothing to do with the validity of my opinions. Thank you however, for the spellcheck.
me (2004-02-21): i voted for bush
Shawn C (2004-11-22): there is no fact or merrace to what you say. i guess thats why you believe it and I dont, but if i were you I would find better things to beleive in than argueing an angle that is completely speculation. Sirs, in a world that has everything based on fact except religion, to truly sway someone to you way of thinking you must first give them something that they might actually be able to prove down to a 'T'. and im sorry but internet propoganda is not a citable source. I do not beleive in this war as something that needs to be persued. but I do beleive that as an american I should try to change its outcome not blame its cause on a hirearchey officials. we have the right to assemble we have the right to free speech we have the right to our most basic freedoms just as every man should, use them.
